Diabetes : Disruption of insulin action & glucose homeostasis
Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, when the body becomes resistant to insulin, or both. This results in elevated levels of blood glucose, which leads over time to serious damages to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. About 830 million people worldwide have diabetes, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, and more than 2 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes each year. Several classes of antidiabetic agents have been developed and approved for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes, among which various insulin formulations, biguanides, incretin mimetics and SGLT-2 inhibitors. Despite the high number of antidiabetic treatments, a high medical need remains in order to improve the quality of life of the diabetic individuals.

Models
We have a long track record in conducting preclinical diabetes studies in the majority of commercially available rodent models. We offer a variety of established and validated rodent models of Type-1 diabetes and Type-2 diabetes for chronic efficacy and mechanisms of action studies.
Induced models
- Prediabetic mouse models
- DIO mouse models
- DIO rat models
- STZ-induced Type-1 Diabetes in rats/mice
Genetic models
- db/db mice
- DKD in db/db mice
- ZDF rats
- NOD mice
Methods
We master gold-standard methods to provide you with high-added value data about your health products’ efficacy and mechanisms of action on key hallmarks of diabetes such as food intake, body weight, circulating plasma biomarkers (Glucose, insulin, glucagon, HbA1c…). In addition, we offer complementary techniques that allow performing histological and genomic analyses on key tissues and organs.
- Body weight measurements
- Semi-fasted and fasted blood glucose
- Glucose tolerance tests, Meal test
- Insulin resistance test
- Hyper insulinemic euglycemic clamp
- Noninvasive Glomerular filtration rate measurements
- Pancreas histology, proteomics & genomics
- Liver & kidneys histology, proteomics & genomics
- Microbiome analysis
